Mr. Evan Combs
Greetings 3rd Grade Families! My name is Mr. Combs and let me begin by saying how happy I am to be your teacher! Two of the things that I am most excited about for this year are working with a group of new students and having us become excellent academic scholars throughout the year! I am super excited about doing LOTS of science experiments and becoming masters of multiplication together!
This year will be my 8th year as an educator- three of those wonderful years serving at Rocky Ridge. I have my Masters Degree in Education from Johns Hopkins University and, before that, graduated from the University of Montana, GO GRIZ! I have lived in Washington for four years and previously lived and taught in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Some of my favorite hobbies include: hiking with my dog, fly fishing, snowboarding, cooking/eating, and traveling. My parents live on a farm with almost 30 animals, so I also love anything that has to do with furry or feathery creatures... and my wife and I welcomed our first baby last August!
3rd grade is a critical year in a student’s education. During this year of elementary school we are working to build the academic and social skills that students will need for success in the intermediate grades. In math, students will focus on learning their multiplication/division facts and begin building an understanding of fractions. In ELA, a major focus will be comprehending grade level texts, defining vocabulary and making the shift from learning to read to reading to learn .
